Myself

Welcome to my portfolio! I'm Steven Canoy, a graduate of San Jose State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media Art. Growing up, I had a passion for drawing, sports, and DJing, which naturally drew me to various forms of art. Living in the Silicon Valley, surrounded by tech giants and their innovative products, inspired me to explore the world of D.M.A. I'm an avid gamer and have worked on independent levels of my own. However, when it comes to design, I find myself torn between minimalist styles and incorporating exotic features. I thoroughly enjoy designing art that ranges from clean and simple to intricate and elaborate. I love to create artwork that plays with perception and engages viewers on a deeper level.

Nav Sharad, Khue Nguyen, Steven Canoy, Ankita Bhowmik Run Kitty Run! 2022 Unity | Piskel
For this 2D platform game I worked as an artist and level designer with Ankita Bhowmik. We used Piskel to create sprites of characters and obstacles and imported them into Unity. Nav Sharad and Khue Nguyen worked as developers and programmed the movement for the game and obstacles.

Steven Canoy (2023) Avatar Model Blender
Here is an avatar that I am building in Blender to upload in Roblox Studio. I am using Goku as a reference and placing verticies by hand to keep the poly count low. I like to have my reference images behind and on the side to make sure my proportions are matching. Also, a mirror modifier helps me keep things even from left to right.

Steven Canoy Rollerskate Project 2023 Substance Painter
In this project I practiced painting with substance painter using texture sets and masks to apply specific textures to sections of the model. To render I used Substance 3D Stager so I can place my object in a scene with proper lighting.

Inspired by Game of Thrones, I embarked on a creative journey, blending fantasy and sci-fi. I put together a virtual world for a modern-day zombie attack with a unique superhero twist set in a New York-like neighborhood.

Virtual World Building, Video Art

San Jose State's Digital Media Art B.F.A. Show (2023) ART::OFFICIAL 4/29/23
I wanted to create something for people to engage with so I made a virtual world to display my stereograms and 3D art. Stereograms allow us to see images that are not immediately visible and when we finally see it, there's a sense of satisfaction and excitement.
